*27/07/2012 update:  According to paultan.org, the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle is set to make its Malaysian debut on 6th September 2012. *

We were told the 2012 Beetle expected to be in Malaysia on July. Moreover, with this post from Volkswagen Malaysia on June 26th, it hint the 2012 Beetle should be here very soon, but now it seems to be delay.

On yesterday night, saw a post from Wearnes VW facebook regarding 2012 Beetle coming to Malaysia on September, but the post disappeared this morning. However, i am not the only one read it, here is another blogger saw it too: “New Century Beetle Coming to Malaysia In September“, written by Hans Cheong.

Went to this showcase to take a look, shocked me, there are more sales assistant than cars. No Polo sedan, no Golf R nor Scirocco R, only two family cars (Sharan and Passat) when i’m there. Nothing much to see, took a photo and left.

There are still no news or actual date on when 2012 Volkswagen Beetle will be available in Malaysia. Until recently, saw this thread posted by dannymk6, in VW Club Malaysia forum:

To all beetle fans, new from salesman that new beetle 1.2tsi would be around at rm115-125k and 1.4tsi would be rm135-145k , very value for a cbu car.

The pricing seems reasonable for both variants. However, there are still no information on what interior or exterior specifications will we get in Malaysia. So, kindly go for Volkswagen outlets for more info and updates.

Finally, “new beetle” is going to replace with “2012 Volkswagen beetle”  after 10 years. The redesign looks impressive, mixture of sporty, classy and classic. From side of view, it looks like a baby porsche and more beetle(insect) alike now.

Seems like VW trying to attract more male driver with this sportier design. Based on demographics of previous gen owner, 55% of them are female. From my perspective, previous gen cute fat round design language truly make it like a girl’s car.

From these pictures, the new one comes with:
  - audi like LED on front headlight
  - golf gti alike front air intake grill
  - steeper windshield
  - flat roof line
  - silver footstep? at the bottom of door
  - spoiler
  - redesign tail lights
  - dual exhaust
  - new rim design
  - “3 inches wider than its predecessor, it sits a half inch lower and is 6 inches longer”
