Xiaomi Malaysia Official Launch Media Event on 19th May 2014

Xiaomi, the Chinese smart devices manufacturer held an official media launch event on 19th May at Kuala Lumpur. Bin Lin (林斌), co-founder and Hugo Barra, Vice President of Xiaomi are here to introduce on the company together with Mi3 smartphone that will be available in Malaysia on Monday 12PM noon, 20th May 2014.


On the event, Bin Lin go through briefly on the company as below:

i) name of mi and the logo – MI stands for Mobile Internet and the logo can be read as heart (心) in chinese when it turn upside down
ii) growth of company in sale as stated here, quite a numbers of founder and co-founders, refer to this picture
iii) social media as one of the most important marketing tool, such as Weibo, QQ and Facebook. Interaction with Mi fans and listen to the community: MIUI forum
iv) introduction of company’s smart products, ex: Mi Router, Mi Router mini, Redmi note, Mi box, recent announced Mi TV2 (estimate around RM 2000 with 8-speaker soundbar and subwoofer) and Mi Pad. Mentioned they are trying hard to bring in more products into Malaysia, such as Mi In-Ear Headphones and Redmi 1S will be coming soon.
v) Telco cooperation by offering phone with contract, Digi, Celcom and Maxis.


Hugo Barra explained on MIUI V5 user interface that i believe is still new and fresh for the overwhelming Samsung / Apple users in our country. On the other hand, the small service centre i have visited in Singapore will be replace with a new Mi Home, locate in the same building in Clark Quay and accessories such as casing will be available for sale at the new centre.


As Singapore, Malaysian also have new customized themes with icons, pictures and colours that familiar to us.


It is now downloadable from Xiaomi Themes application, click “Themes” that pre-loaded on your phone, Malaysia theme should be available on top as image above. Alternatively, click on search button on top right, type in “Malaysia” and download the result shown. The theme works perfectly for both Mi3 and the Redmi i am using.

The other good news announced by Hugo Barra is Redmi 1S will be arriving in Malaysia next month, June. Redmi 1S which is slight different variant from one that currently offering in Signapore, everything is similar except upgraded chipset from 1.5GHz Quad-core MediaTek MT6589T (Imagination PowerVR SGX544 GPU) to 1.6GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8228 (Adreno 305 GPU).
