Samsung Mobile Malaysia unveiled the 5th generation of their flagship Galaxy S series smartphone on 27th March 2014 at Pullman Hotel Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. “With the GALAXY S5, Samsung is going back to basics to focus on delivering the capabilities that matter most to our consumers,” said President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics, Lee Dong Yong.
The new device will equip with 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display (432 ppi), 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor, 2GB Ram, storage of 16GB or 32GB, 4G LTE ready, 16MP ISOCELL CMOS rear camera, 2MP wide angle front camera, 2800mAh battery capacity and latest Android 4.4 KitKat.
There are 3 new main features for the device, i) IP67 certificated Dust & Water Resistant that protects the phone from sweat, rain liquids, sand and dust. ii) Fingerprint Security and access that allow to unlock the phone and provide a more secure way to make payment. iii) Heart Rate sensor which enables to measure heart rate by placing finger near the flash area.

Samsung also introduced “the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear Fit, which takes the freedom, convenience and style of wearable technology to the next level. The Gear 2 offers consumers enhanced connectivity and a completely integrated approach for the most personal wearable experience. The Gear Fit (as image above), in the meantime, is the industry’s first curved Super AMOLED wearable device for the active consumers.”
If battery life is a priority for you on that moment, you can turn on “Ultra Power Saving Mode” that turns display into black and white, and shuts down all unnecessary features to minimise battery consumption. Samsung claims the phone can stay up to 24 hours in standby mode with only 10% of battery life left.
Consumers can pre-order the Samsung GALAXY S5 from Friday, March 28 to Thursday, April 10 from participating telco partners and Samsung Mobile Brand Shops. Preview units will be available at participating telco outlets and Samsung Mobile Brand Stores for experiential purposes.
Samsung GALAXY S5 will be available in Malaysia from April 11 onwards at selected telco partners – Celcom, DiGi and Maxis, and all Samsung Mobile Brand Stores, at a recommended retail price of RM2,399, while the Gear 2 and Gear Fit are RM899 and RM599 respectively.
Colours available in Malaysia are Charcoal Black and Shimmery White, where Electric Blue and Copper Gold to be announced in due time.
