Citroen Malaysia: DS4 THP 200 DSport and DS4 THP 163

DS4 was the second model launched under Citroen’s DS line, a smaller brother to the gorgeous DS5. It features unique styling with consummately worked lines, the DS4 is styled as a 2+2 coupe which appear like a 2 doors coupe but actually comes with 4 doors. In Malaysia, we are getting two variants: the normal DS4 THP 163 (163hp/240 Nm) and tuned up 1.6 turbo prince engine sport version, DS4 THP 200 DSport (197hp/275Nm).

Citroën DS4 THP 200 DSport, i was surprised when Mr Zamani introduced the DS4 THP 200 DSport, didn’t know NAZA is bringing this variant too, this is definitely a good news for stick shifters and hot hatch lovers.

Exterior are exactly the same for the two variant, there are no way to differentiate the two by not looking into engine or interior. Speaking of engine, to check on engine compartment, you need to open the bonnet through a lifter that stored at the left side of passenger seat.

Differences by comparing DS4 THP 200 DSport to DS4 THP 160, DSport comes with:

automatic electronic car park instead of manual hand brake
– performance turbocharged engine that provides more power, 197hp/275Nm
– Manual 6-speed transmission with leather gear stick + knob
– DS4 THP 200 DSport is RM 10k more than price of normal DS4

Check out the great design of rear door handler hide under the top corners of the C-Pillar, it makes the car looks clean and more sleek. But it comes with a trade, rear windows of the car are fixed, you can’t roll and press a button to get it down even if a police ask you to do so.

Citroën DS4 THP 163 still provides great ride with its 1.6L twin-scroll turbo (163hp/240Nm) and six-speed automatic transmission, much more powerful compares to Peugeot 308 Turbo (156 hp/240 Nm) and many others C-segment cars out there. the car comes with equipped with Xenon headlamps, daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, Arkamys sound system, blind spot monitoring system and Habana Club leather with bracelet confection.

What a large windscreen on DS4, it is almost panoramic where it extends near to top of the driver seat. It sure provides great view but i wonder how much will it cost if cracked seriously, road condition in Malaysia is pretty bad, my Mazda 3 changed entire windscreen once and fixed twice on stone chip within 3 years.

One of the nicest rear design i’ve seen in recent years, multiple cut-away, curves that create muscular looks and nice twin chromed exhaust pipes. The car’s over design looks more modern with years ahead compares to current Volkswagen, Lexus or Subaru hatches. DS4 also named as the “Most Beautiful Car of the Year” at the Auto Bild 2011 Design Awards.

As stated by Citroën, “the DS4 includes an intelligent traction control which continuously monitors the condition of the road and adapts wheel traction for the best possible grip, hillstart assist and a parking space gap measurement system which tells the DS4’s driver if the car can fit in a parking space as well as front, lateral and curtain airbags”. DS4 comes with colors choice of Blanc Nacre, Brun Hickory, Rouge Babylone and Noir Perla Nera, on-the-road price: RM165,000.
