WordPress: Display only summary on Home Page

Wanted to show blog post’s first paragraph or summary on the main page, tried on Dashboard -> Setting -> Reading -> For each article in a feed, show: “Summary”, but doesn’t work as I expect because it only shows summary on feeds reader (ex: Google reader, Netvibes).

After done web search, it cannot be done in a universal way throughout the blog, gotto insert one by one with 3 simple methods to do so: Excerpt at “Screen Options:, The more tag in “Visual” Editor and The more tag “Text” Editor.

i) Excerpt

To enable it, go to Dashboard -> Add New Post -> “Screen Options” -> tick “Excerpt”. A new column will be added under post editor (where you write content), write in summary or just copy-paste paragraph from your blog entry and it will display in main page.

ii) “Visual” Editor – The More Tag

Insert “the more tag” (ALT+Shift+T) by pressing button at Visual text editor as image above. It will add a line of

at where you pressed the button, those paragraph/content above the line will be display in home page. Check out WordPress official support, The More Tag: http://goo.gl/G5X6

iii) “Text” Editor – The More Tag

Insert “the more tag” manually by typing

at where you want, those paragraph/content above the line will be display in home page. Personally, i find this method is more convenient and giving more access to the appearance. Check out WordPress official support, The More Tag: http://goo.gl/G5X6
