ASUS Malaysia: TAICHI™ Ultrabook media event

(VivoTab Smart, VivoTab, MeMO Pad and Taichi)

Today, ASUS Malaysia present us the latest creation from Taiwanese PC manufacturer through a Technical Seminar + Media Launch event at The Ritz-Carlton. Introduced a unqiue design Windows 8 ultrabook laptop, dubbes as “ASUS TAICHI 21“.

The main different from other manufactures’s Ultrabook (that provides flip panel, ratate-able screen or lid that open up to 180 degree) is Asus Taichi offers two full-HD screens (Outward-facing display and Internal display) instead of one.     There is a dedicated “Taichi” button on keyboard which brings up custom Taichi Home-Screen (Metro styled) interface with fast access to: Asus cloud, Supernote, battery saving mode, music mode and the 4 display mode switch.

  • Notebook mode: full pc experience with 11.6″ matte screen internal display that perform just like good old day
  • Tablet mode: close the lid down to use the 11.6″ FHD multi-touchscreen display 
  • Mirror screen: replicates the content from the internal screen to Outward-facing screen, as a presentation
  • Dual Screen: allows you to show different content on outward screen, as extended display with touch enable

    Through the technical seminar, these are some other notes:

  • physical volume rocker on left side, same as those on smartphones that helps easy acess to volume
  • though Taichi is lightweight as a notebook, but is heavy to be held as a tablet
  • while “Dual screen mode”, a small window on the desktop will show what the outward-facing screen is showing
  • outward-facing lid screen is a finger marks magnet
  • switching between the various display modes will take sometimes to get used
  • up to 5 hours of battery life (Wi-Fi web browsing) and standby time of 2 weeks
  • there will be a 13.3-inch Asus Taichi 31 coming and a “maybe” a Dual-touchscreen Asus Taichi in future
