Even though 4.0.2.A.0.42 rolled out since October through SEUS or PC companion. But from my experience, OTA update is the easiest way to remain rooted. It works for the third time now since 2.3.2.
My phone popped up with 4.0.2.A.0.42 OTA update available few hours ago.
Previous Firmware: 2.3.4 (4.0.1.A.0.283) rooted
Update path : OTA through 3G
Duration : Around 15 minutes.
Steps on updating is easy: tap on notification-> download-> install it. It will be done automatically with all contacts, data and preferences remain.
As compare to 4.0.1.A.0.283, there is not much changed can be notice. Improvements are nothing but it runs just as well as it’s ever done. Two changes as below:
i) Latitude Icon changed
ii) New app “Guide”
**For those that doesn’t have Root access, kindly refer to this post: Root with Lock Bootloader: Easy Rooting Toolkit [v3.0]
- 4.0.2.A.0.42 Android 2.3.4 firmware starts to roll out to Xperia arc
- [ROM]Generic LT15i (Arc) 4.0.2.A.0.42 (1247-1041) (Android 2.3.4)
Xperia arc having a single core processor, it is obviously suffer from performance lagging while on-line. It become worst with numbers of social media and messenger applications installed.
Try to check on the “Setting”-> “Running Services”, social media and messenger apps trigger everytime connected to WiFi or 3G. It really pissed me off when in a hurry to make call or browsing info.
Notice WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Gmail, Pulse? All these continue to run although i disconnected for 10 minutes.
So, what i did:
i) Uninstall 80% of my chat/call apps such as Talkbox, Line, Viber, Google+ messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and eBuddy Messenger
ii) By turning on Facebook Intergration(Facebook Inside Xperia), it takes ages for albums to load. This is one of the service that running heavily behind. Imagine if new 30-40+ photos uploaded in Facebook account and it sync all of them one by one. So, i turn if off by “Setting-> “Account & Sync”-> “Facebook inside Xperia” -> uncheck “Sync Albums in Gallery” (You need to check “Activate auto-sync” in General Sync Setting before you can uncheck “Sync Albums in Gallery”)
iii) Turn off “Activate auto-sync”, turning this on makes the phone lag like a turtle
No harm uninstall all those apps, restore is always available from Android Market. But for the smoothness on my phone now, i will never install them until i get a faster phone.
iv) For Music Production
